I want to start by apologizing in advance for any misspelling of words or grammatical errors, I am not a professional writer, so you can expect a lot of mistakes... I write from my own experiences and those of my children...but most important I write from the heart.
My journey started 16 years ago, when at the age of 21 , I had my son Jesus...He was born with Down Syndrome and came to change my life dramatically. I had no idea what Down Syndrome was, or how it affected a persons life and the limitations that came with it. After reading book after book that explained what to expect.. I realized that the only way I could know what to expect is by living one day at a time and learning one lesson at a time. No book can ever prepare you for motherhood, whether your child is disabled or not.
When my son Jesus was born the doctors told me that he would not be able to speak and walk, as a mother my heart ached at the thought of never being able to hear my son call me "mom"... I cried myself to sleep as I would hold him, and wondered what life had in store for him, not being able to walk or talk. I remember the look of everyone that came to see me after my son was born... they had that " Oh poor thing" look in there face , because my son was born with Down Syndrome. As of that moment I promised myself that I would do everything in my power to make sure that my son , would never see that look from anyone, and that he would always know that he can accomplish anything he put his mind to do...even though there were limitations.. I would teach him to try and try again, no matter what!!
I continued to believe that my son was capable of doing as much or more as a person with no disabilities, I strongly believed it , and visualized my son speaking and walking.... On his 1st birthday party my son decided to go against everything the doctors said he would not be able to do, and took his first steps towards the table full of gifts..... then at the age of 3 his first words were "ZulyMomma"

I am proud to say that my son Jesus is 16 now, plays basketballs, loves to dance, not only does he knows how to communicate with a limited vocabulary but he also knows sign language. He enjoys playing video games with his little brother Ismael , who is now 6 years old... I am very proud of my children. I have been a father and mother for my children and will continue to always empower them to dream and that no matter what anyone says, they can accomplish anything if they set their mind and effort to it.
This is part of my story, may it inspire you to share yours and to empower your children to believe that anything is possible.... I am a stay at home mom by choice , a single mother by circumstances.... I am ZulyMomma for Love!
